Data Sources

Heroes Quest Games's trivia bank draws on several free and open sources, plus our own hand-written questions. Every source that ships a question verbatim or lightly edited is credited below, per its license โ€” most of these are CC BY-SA 4.0 or Apache-2.0, and Wikidata's own facts are CC0 (no attribution legally required, credited anyway).

Where the party-game content comes from

Every prompt, word, scale, location and role card in our party and crowd games is written by the Heroes Quest Games team. Nothing in these banks is taken from a published party or card game.

  • Bluff: 112 words with real definitions, hand-written.
  • Crowd Says: 60 questions, plus facts from our own players’ poll answers.
  • Scattergories sprint: 60 categories, hand-written.
  • Fill-in: 300 prompt cards, generated from our own templates.
  • Herd Mentality: 150 prompts, hand-written.
  • Wavelength: 120 scale pairs, hand-written.
  • Spyfall: 40 locations with six roles each, hand-written.
  • Werewolf: the role cards are our own wording.
  • Words N Wheels: 500 phrases across 12 categories, hand-written.
  • Board games: checkers, four in a row, gomoku, reversi, mancala, sea battle, dots and boxes and tic-tac-toe are traditional games in the public domain; the rules engines are ours.

Where the venue data comes from

The venues on the map and in the directory are imported from public sources (NY State Liquor Authority, Overture Maps, Foursquare Open Source Places) โ€” their attribution is on its own page: Where the venue data comes from.
