Where the bar data comes from
Bars that show up dark ๐ on the map were not typed in by hand โ they were imported from three public sources, cross-checked against each other, and never touched a review or a star rating. SPEC-W3B-GHOST-PAGES-2026-08-22 ยง1 has the full decision; this page is the attribution it requires.
NY State Liquor Authority โ Active Licenses
The authoritative "licensed to pour" list for New York State, published by the NY State Liquor Authority via data.ny.gov. Public government data under New York's open data terms. A Bar matched to a license here is marked licensed on the map and directory.
Overture Maps Foundation
Place data from the Overture Maps Foundation, licensed CDLA-Permissive-2.0.
Foursquare Open Source Places
Place data from Foursquare Open Source Places, licensed Apache-2.0.
OpenStreetMap-derived rows are never used here (its ODbL license is share-alike and would require
re-licensing this whole table). No Google Places, no Yelp. See the bar
import pipeline's own docs in this project's CLAUDE.md ("Ghost pages") for the full
pipeline.
